Dumbarton Concerts/Inner City- Inner Child presents programs of artistic and educational excellence throughout many communities of Washington, D.C. DC/ICIC showcases a diverse selection of established and emerging musicians in the intimate and acoustically rich Dumbarton Church for listeners of all ages. For the youngest students living in poverty, our education program improves academic achievement, uplifts and inspires using the transformative power of the arts.
Dumbarton Concerts/ Inner City–Inner Child seeks a Program Associate primarily supporting our venerable education program, Inner City – Inner Child.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer/editor and can tell the ICIC story to funders; He/She is an advocate for equal access to education and desires working toward an ideal that all children in DC have the right to receive a high quality, early childhood education; He/She believes in the power of the arts to transform individuals.
This position is a member of a small but efficient team. The job requires both time in the office writing grants and assisting with program administration and off-site managing programs and getting to know the individuals ICIC serves.
The ideal candidate is friendly, open, and comfortable engaging with a variety of people: young children, teachers and funders. The ideal candidate is familiar with Washington, DC and wants to contribute to Washington being one of America’s greatest cities with a strong education system and vibrant arts community.
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years of experience writing grants, strong writing skills, a creative spirit, and strong critical thinking skills. He/She thrives in a collaborative, supportive, fun environment while valuing hard work and achievement of results. A passion for education, social change and the arts is a must.
Write all grants narratives and mid-year/annual reports to funders; maintaining a portfolio of 25-30 grants per year. Responsible for achieving annual fundraising goal.
Lead writer and editor on all communications copy including press releases, donor solicitation and acknowledgement letters, annual report narrative, brochures, blog.
Research and cultivate new funding opportunities; develop/maintain relationships with new/existing funders.
Stay current on latest research/news on early childhood education policy, early childhood education in the District, arts and literacy education, and issues of education equity/access for low-income children and families.
Create teacher notebooks and other curricular materials for ICIC programming.
Periodically attend ICIC off site programs. Arrange and participate in site visits with funders, and with prospective centers.
Develop and maintain relationships with teachers and directors in community-based centers, public, and charter schools.
Coordinate event management logistics for workshops, including room set-up, catering, photocopying, artist logistics.
Manage teacher and student assessment including distributing, collecting, and analyzing Pre and Post student and teacher assessments, and facilitating 6 teacher focus groups per year.
Attend work-related trainings, meetings, workshops as needed.
Report to ICIC Executive Director and Dumbarton Concerts Managing/ Artistic Director.
- Education and Experience
2-4 years experience in the education, arts administration, or non-profit sector
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Outstanding reporting, writing and editing skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce error-free work
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines across multiple projects
Project management and teamwork skills
Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions independently and collaboratively
Desire to work ‘in the field,’ getting to know and developing relationships with the individuals ICIC serves.
Superior critical thinking skills
Highly organized and able to multi-task effectively
Good sense of humor, cooperative and flexible spirit
Ability to self-start projects and work independently until completion
Preference for small organization work setting
Tech savvy, with a strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Mailchimp, Squarespace
